In state legislatures around the country, lawmakers have sought to advance so-called "marketplace verification requirements" that require online marketplaces to disclose to certain information regarding sellers of consumer products. In practice, these measures would impose impractical, burdensome requirements that would jeopardize the privacy of millions of Americans while advantaging big box retailers over small businesses and casual sellers.
